Community Liaison / Day of Caring
The Community Liaison provides linkage to United Way funded agencies and is responsible for Cabinet education into the work of United Way. United Way’s Day of Caring program provides a vital link that connects community-minded organizations and their employees with social service organizations that need willing hands for special projects or events. In 2007, 110 Day of Caring projects were completed in the community.

Erma Chapman is the Executive Director for Macdonald Youth Services (MYS) – a registered charitable organization dedicated to providing a range of quality assessment, treatment and support services to individuals, families and communities, with an emphasis on children and youth – a position she has held since 2002.

Ms Chapman has over 25 years of knowledge and experience in Manitoba’s social services sector. Prior to joining MYS, Erma worked for the Child Protection Branch of Manitoba Family Services and Housing. In that position, she conducted quality assurance reviews, monitored Branch service agreements, and provided consultation with Child and Family Services agencies. She also conducted evaluations of residential group facilities for children and youth throughout Manitoba, and steered a competency-based training program for Youth Care Workers through development and delivery.

Prior to joining MYS, Erma enjoyed a range of volunteer activities. She served in leadership capacities at the provincial and national levels of the Canadian Hemophilia Society, served on provincial and federal advisory committees to Ministers of Health on AIDS, and participated in local, national and international efforts to develop safer blood systems.

As the mom of a busy 13-year-old daughter, she is in the “chauffeuring” stage of parenting. She holds a Certificate in Management of Non Profit Organizations in addition to a Ph.D. in psychology from the University of Manitoba.
