United Way's Leadership Development Program
The Leadership Development Program Committee is responsible for recruiting sponsored executives from businesses and organizations throughout Winnipeg. These sponsored executives act as an extension of United Way staff during the annual fundraising campaign.

Marilyn McLaren has been President and CEO of Manitoba Public Insurance (MPI) since 2004. MPI is a non-profit Crown corporation offering basic automobile coverage since 1971. Services are available through claim centres and customer service centres across Manitoba. Close to 1,700 staff members are dedicated to working with Manitobans to reduce risk on the road and to keeping vehicle insurance rates low.
Marilyn holds a BA and master’s degree in Public Administration from the Universities of Manitoba and Winnipeg. In her time as President, MPI has led a successful fight against auto theft and improved service and value to Manitoba drivers with a new driver’s licence system and extended service network. Manitoba is the first province to offer enhanced identification for travel to the U.S. by land or water. Later this year, MPI expects to introduce an improved merit discount/surcharge system, streamlined Autopac renewal process, and a high tech one-piece driver’s licence.
Marilyn has served on several local community boards, including YM/YWCA Winnipeg’s Board of Governors.
