Each year, the Campaign Chair is responsible for recruiting United Way’s Campaign Cabinet and leading the annual fundraising campaign.

Gregg Hanson is the immediate Past President and CEO of Wawanesa Mutual – a position he held for 15 years until his retirement in 2007. His entire career with Wawanesa spans 28 years and a variety of positions, including Branch Manager and Vice President & General Manager.
Born in Saskatoon, Gregg moved to Winnipeg at age 7 and has lived here ever since, with the exception of three years in San Diego when he worked in Wawanesa’s California operation.
Gregg graduated from the University of Manitoba with a commerce degree (honours) before he went on to earn his chartered accountant designation.
Throughout the years, Gregg’s commitment to continuing education has encompassed a broad range of business and management training, and personal development. This includes the Advanced Executive Education Program at Wharton Business School, University of Pennsylvania, as well as conversational French at St. Boniface College.
Though retired, he remains very active in the business community and currently sits on the boards of Wawanesa, MTS, James Richardson and Sons Ltd., and the Insurance Bureau of Canada.
Gregg is a Fellow of the Life Management Institute, the Insurance Institute of Canada, and the Institute of Chartered Accountants.
A vast community service portfolio includes the 1999 Pan American Games, for which Gregg served as Chair of Finance, as well as 10 years on the board of the Winnipeg Foundation (six as Chair).
Over the years, Gregg has received several honours, including the Distinguished Alumni Award from the University of Manitoba as well as the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Manitoba Lifetime Achievement Award.
He and wife Mary have two adult children: Adam (wife Jessica) and Janine, who competed as a rower in the 2008 Beijing Olympics.
