United Way's Major Donor Cabinet
The Major Donor Cabinet includes individuals who personally invite peers to join them in contributing at the Major Donor Level ($5,000+).

Born in Elkhorn, MB and raised in Winnipeg, John joined Comcheq Services Limited after graduating from the University of Manitoba with a B.Sc. There, he served in a variety of capacities, including President and CEO from 1984 to1998.

John was elected to the Manitoba Legislature in 1999 to represent the constituency of Fort Whyte. He served as the critic for Finance, Health, Intergovernmental Affairs and Manitoba Hydro before resigning his seat in 2005.

Currently, John is a Director and Principal of payroll service bureau Payworks Inc. and President of TelPay Inc., which operates an electronic bill payment service.

John has been an active volunteer in the Winnipeg community, serving as Chair of Economic Development Winnipeg, a council member for the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Manitoba, a board member of Winnipeg Enterprises Corporation, and a founding member of the Business Council of Manitoba.

John is very involved with United Way of Winnipeg, having served as Chair of the Major Corporate Division, Deputy Chair of Business, and Deputy Chair. He is also Past President of the Manitoba Chamber Orchestra, the Lindenwoods Community Association, and Big Brothers Big Sisters Winnipeg.
