Winnipeg: the heart of Canada!

United Way of Winnipeg's 2008 campaign will forever be a testament to this community's overwhelming generosity and capacity for kindness.

Donate to Campaign 2008Despite prevailing economic uncertainty that threatened to hamper the efforts of charitable organizations across the country, Winnipeggers defied the odds and raised over $17.9 million for our community - the most money ever raised in a single year throughout United Way's 44-year history.

In doing so, we earned our place as one of the most generous cities in Canada.

The excitement began when we kicked-off Campaign 2008 with Plane Pull 5: United on Friday, September 19 at Stevenson Aviation and Aerospace Training Centre in Winnipeg.

Conditions were perfect and over 1500 Winnipeggers helped set the tone for our campaign by demonstrating how much more effective we are when we all pull together for a common purpose.

The economic forecasts that followed weren't quite as sunny, but our resolve remained - fanned by a call to action from a small group of long-time United Way supporters through the 2008 Leadership Challenge.

As a result, 2353 became Leadership donors with contributions of $1200 or more each.

Throughout Campaign 2008, hundreds of workplaces across Winnipeg engaged in their own fun and creative campaigns. We got to know a few of these in our regular web spotlight Workplace of the Week.

Overall, we received fantastic media coverage.

Thank you to each and every Winnipegger who remained steadfast to our ultimate goal: a better life for everyone who lives here. This includes our 2008 Campaign Cabinet - more than 40 individuals whose extraordinary passion, determination and foresight are making a powerful difference in our community.

I have never been more proud to be a Winnipegger. Thank you!

Bob Silver,
2008 United Way Campaign Chair
