Winnipeggers create powerful change in 2010
Through participation and support for United Way's 2010 fundraising campaign, Winnipeggers everywhere have taken action to change lives right here in our city.
Even before September's official Campaign Kickoff and Plane Pull where 2010 Campaign Chair Gregg Hanson introduced his volunteer Cabinet and announced a goal to raise more than $18.8 million, Winnipeggers were well on their way with several early-bird workplace campaigns already completed.
For the next few months, more than 40 Sponsored Executives on loan from community-minded organizations as part of United Way's Leadership Development program helped thousands more participate through close to 1100 workplace campaigns.
For the first time in over a decade, Winnipeggers shopped for change at the city's biggest Garage Sale, raising more than $43,000. The second annual Cupcake Day for United Way was also a big success, raising more than $10,000.
More Winnipeggers than ever became Leadership donors by contributing at least $1200 each, while others opted to be B.A.D. for good by donating a buck-a-day. Inspired by United Way's 2010 campaign video, still more found their own reasons to give.
It all culminated in January with a celebration, following news that Winnipeggers had indeed achieved our goal. As a result, more kids in our city can choose graduation over gang life, more families are learning to take better care of one another, and more neighbours are connecting to build a safer, stronger community for all of us.
Thank you to all the organizations and people who are changing lives through support for United Way. Because of YOU, there is a WAY.
