On November 30th, the Youth Relations Council hosted a reception to honour the recipients of United Way's 2007 Student Community Service Award.
The award celebrates young volunteers in Winnipeg and brings together fifty Grade 11 students from all across the city.
Award recipients are youth who set an example by volunteering, investing their time, energy and talents in their schools and communities, motivating others to get involved, and connecting and working with others to make a difference.
Katrina Olson from Argyle Alternative High School was one of the recipients who has a long list of involvement in her community and with United Way.
Katrina and her peers organized a BBQ/Games Day last spring for the children of Pinkham Elementary School using a Youth Connections grant to help them pay for their project.
Sponsored by Great-West Life, award recipients received personalized award certificates and public recognition for their leadership and volunteer service.
