With pennants proudly proclaiming 2010 as the year of the tiger, Winnipeg's Chinatown celebrated over 100 years of history with a Street Festival this weekend.

Comm News - Chinatown fest - Aug10Crowds enjoyed a traditional lion dance, martial arts demonstrations and live singing while local restaurants offered street-side samples of their wonderful food.

As the newest member of this vibrant and historic neighbourhood, United Way was thrilled and honoured that festival organizers invited us to participate.

Volunteers and staff provided children's entertainment including face painting (works of art, really), balloon art, special tattoos, popcorn, cotton candy and several smaller activities for the children to enjoy.

Thank you to our new neighbours for coming out to say hello and making us feel so welcome.

United Way would also like to thank our volunteers and send a special shout out to Ginny Witkowski and her entire family, a very talented, thoughtful and wonderful group of people.
