St. Boniface groups receive Building Blocks grants for summertime greet and grill
A healthy neighbourhood that encourages personal well-being is one of the fundamental building blocks for a good life.
It's also a prime objective for United Way of Winnipeg's Building Blocks (BB) program.
And that's cause for celebration for both the Goulet Street Residents' Association and the Goulet Seniors' Club. The two community groups are the latest to receive Building Blocks grants to help strengthen relationships between area residents.
"Building Blocks is all about creating stronger communities by encouraging people to reach out and connect with those around them, so that strangers become neighbours and neighbourhoods become safe and vibrant places to live, work and raise our children," says Linda Brazier Lamoureux, director of community investment for United Way of Winnipeg.
The Goulet Seniors' Club will receive $1000 for a neighbourhood barbeque this summer, while the Goulet Street Residents' Association will use its $750 grant to hold a bazaar and barbeque of its own.
BB grants range from $100 to $1000 and may be used to purchase the supplies and/or services necessary for small, informal groups of people to take action with respect to challenges facing their local community.
United Way is always looking for opportunities to create strong communities where everyone can lead a full and happy life.
