Congratulations to Jo Wright on her induction into the Order of Manitoba July 15, 2009. Jo received the province's highest honour for the decades of service she's provided to the community through United Way of Winnipeg.
The Order of Manitoba was established to recognize Manitobans whose demonstrated excellence and achievements have benefited the social, cultural or economic well-being of the province and its residents.
After more than 27 years with United Way, Jo retired earlier this year from her position as Director, Major Giving. She is among a distinguished group of 12 men and women - including local television personality Sylvia Kuzyk and filmmaker Guy Maddin - selected by an independent advisory council to receive the honour in 2009.
"Each has made a unique mark on this province and its people with achievements that both impress and inspire," Lt.-Gov. John Harvard, chancellor of the order, said in May when he first announced the recipients. The chancellor also noted that this year's ceremony would be particularly meaningful as it marks the 10th anniversary of the establishment of the order.
Once inducted, members may use the initials O.M. after their names for life.
Way to go Jo!
