Winnipeggers exceed 2010 goal for greater opportunities and more lives changed

Winnipeggers' extraordinary generosity and commitment to United Way's 2010 campaign will continue to change lives right here in our city by providing sustained support to a vital network of nearly 100 social programs and partnerships.

Students from the Wi Wabigooni elementary school program - affiliated with United Way agency partner Rossbrook House - help reveal the results of Winnipeggers’ generosity over the past year
"We have raised more than $18.8 million and achieved our goal for 2010, making it possible for United Way to fulfill our promises to agency partners and the community over the coming year," Hanson said. "Better yet, workplace campaigns are still running and donations are still coming in, which means even greater opportunities and more lives changed."
Money raised through United Way's annual campaign represents sustained, multi-year funding - a unique asset in the non-profit world that means agency partners can spend less time and resources on fundraising and proposal writing and more time focusing their attention on the important work of delivering services to people in our community.
It means important social resources will be better able to train and retain qualified, dedicated staff who will be there for their clients over the long haul. It helps give these staff the opportunity to reach out and connect with the community in a meaningful way in order to build the relationships and trust that are so vital to helping people achieve their goals and realize their dreams. It means these supports and services will be available when our friends, family, neighbours and co-workers need them most.
For more than 245,000 Winnipeggers (one-third of our population) who access United Way programs and services each year, it means someone will be there to say "you can" just as you're thinking you can't.
Every dollar of every donation to United Way's campaign will be invested directly back into the community thanks to an annual grant from the Province of Manitoba that covers fundraising and administrative costs.
Thank you Winnipeg! Because of you, there is a way to change lives in our community.
