United Way campaign hits $10 million mark!

Proving we can achieve extraordinary things when we all work together, Winnipeggers have raised an incredible $10,862,389 in only the first five weeks of United Way's 2008 campaign! That's already 61 per cent of our total fundraising goal with half the campaign still remaining.

Andrew Douglas, program manager for United Way agency partner SEED Winnipeg and Ginny Witkowski, United Way sponsored executive and former asset-building program participant, proudly display Winnipeggers' 2008 investment in the community to date.
Such overwhelming generosity on the part of Winnipeggers is even more significant in light of recent global economic uncertainty. The historical Ukrainian Labour Temple in Winnipeg's North End provided the ideal venue to celebrate the tireless efforts of people from every corner of the city. Approximately 120 volunteers, staff and United Way agency partners attended the breakfast event.
Money raised from United Way's 2008 campaign will be invested directly into community programs and initiatives to reduce poverty in Winnipeg by addressing the underlying causes. These include job skills training, money management, financial counselling and matched savings programs that help families make the most of their income and increase their savings.
Promoting financial stability and independence for all Winnipeg families is a priority for United Way of Winnipeg along with helping children and youth achieve their potential and improving neighbourhood health and personal well-being.
United Way would like to thank the thousands of volunteers who are working on the frontlines and behind the scenes of this year's campaign to ensure we achieve our goals.
