A holiDay of Caring for kids at Rossbrook House

His big night behind him, Santa made one final appearance at Rossbrook House in Winnipeg to the delight of close to 30 children.

"It's awesome," said Austin (with Santa) of the annual Rossbrook holiday party hosted by the Winnipeg Labour Council.
The kids were treated to a pizza lunch and performances by a juggler and clown before sitting down with the big guy himself, who came bearing gifts for all.
The WLC's Labour Community Service program has been coordinating the annual holiday party for about 15 years.
Some of these kids have been coming since they were babies, said Audrey Campbell, program manager at Rossbrook House. For many it's the highlight of the holidays.
"It's a chance to ensure they have a proper childhood - where they can just be kids and not have to worry." said Campbell. "They see that people care about them."
"Just look at their faces - they're having a blast," said Sister Maria Vigna, Rossbrook's executive co-director. "This is just another way they can enjoy one another."
Those faces - particularly the expressions when Santa arrives - are precisely the reason WLC president Larry Pelzer enjoys being part of the event.
"Rossbrook House is a haven for kids in the community - where they can feel respected and loved," said Pelzer.
A United Way agency partner, Rossbrook House is a neighbourhood centre that offers children, youth and young adults an alternative to life on the streets.
As the city's central labour body, the Winnipeg Labour Council represents 45,000 members of affiliated unions in both public and private sectors. The Labour Community Services program was established as a joint venture between the WLC and United Way of Winnipeg.
Thank you WLC for your generous community spirit and commitment to making spirits bright during the holidays!
