Congratulations to Heather Grant-Jury on receiving the 2009 United Way of Canada Partnership Builder Award.

Comm News - National Nod for former Chair
Heather Grant-Jury with United Way of Winnipeg President & CEO Susan Lewis and Michelle Laurie, Board of Directors, United Way of Canada.
The award celebrates the long-standing partnership between labour and United Way, and recognizes people and organizations whose outstanding commitment to community reflects the principles of these two movements.

Susan Lewis, United Way of Winnipeg President and CEO, and Michelle Laurie, a member of United Way of Canada's National Board of Directors, presented Heather with the award during the National Conference Award Gala on Friday, April 25, 2009 at the Westin Hotel in Ottawa.

Since being elected as the Winnipeg Labour Council's first female President at age 23, Heather has blazed a trail in the labour movement. Today, she serves as Education and Training Director at United Food and Commercial Workers Local 832.

Heather's relationship with United Way spans over two decades. Nationally, she was the first person from the labour movement ever elected Chair of the National Board of United Way of Canada.

Locally, Heather continues to prove how deep her community spirit runs, serving as United Way of Winnipeg's Campaign Chair in 2007. Under her leadership, Winnipeggers exceeded the campaign goal and recruited a record number of Leadership donors ($1200+ annually) that year. Heather remains a vital member of United Way of Winnipeg's campaign cabinet, currently serving as Deputy Chair of the Advisory. In her tireless quest to improve lives and build our community, Heather has addressed thousands of citizens, workers, community leaders, and politicians. Her impact on our community is immeasurable, her passion and spirit, infectious. Heather is truly a deserving candidate for recognition of her tireless commitment to creating opportunities for a better life for everyone.

Congratulations Heather!
