Who says there's no glamour in being a dedicated volunteer?

Certainly not Gladys Yeung or Yael Shrom - two young United Way volunteers who were recently featured in the glamour issue of Canada's vervegirl magazine for their extraordinary efforts to encourage leadership and volunteerism among young people in Winnipeg.

Profiled as vervegirls on the verge, the two friends told more than 210 000 readers across Canada about their roles on United Way's Youth Relations Council as well as their work as Youth Board Co-Chairs for United Way's annual Student Leadership Conference.

"The youth possess the energy, creativity and ambition needed to produce effective changes," 18-year-old Yael told the magazine. "The Committee Gladys and I lead for United Way is a perfect example of youth empowerment."

In their ongoing efforts to address issues concerning youth, Gladys, 17, told the magazine that "through constant communication and having understanding and helpful youth directors at United Way, we're able to face tribulations and come up with viable solutions."

Congratulations Gladys and Yael and thank you for your hard work and dedication to United Way and our community.

By engaging young people in Winnipeg, you"re helping create opportunities for a better life for everyone.
