Media Challenge Scores Touchdown for Winnipeg

Members of Winnipeg's media made all the right moves for all the right reasons when they took to the turf for the second annual United Way Media Challenge on Friday, September 5 at Canad Inns Stadium.

Media darlings became stadium stars for a day, coming off the sidelines to take centre field for the 2008 United Way Media Challenge
Teams competed in a series of drills that tested their agility, passing and kicking skills, including an obstacle course, kicking through the uprights and pulling the Bomber plane.
The gridiron gang and defending champions from the Winnipeg Free Press dominated the field and emerged victorious for the second year. But Winnipeg is the real winner whenever we come together to support United Way. Because we all win when a child succeeds in school, when families are financially stable and when all Winnipeg neighbourhoods are healthy and encourage personal well-being.
The Media Challenge kicked off Canwest's Banjo Bowl weekend, which concluded Sunday with a battle between the hometown Winnipeg Blue Bombers and Saskatchewan Roughriders. In a heartbreaking turn of events, the Roughriders scored a field goal with only seconds left, to win the game and a $10 000 contribution from Canwest for the United Way campaign in that province.
Thanks to the Winnipeg Blue Bombers and special teams from CBC, Citytv, CJOB/POWER 97, CTV, Filipino Journal, Global, HANK FM, HOT 103, Winnipeg Free Press and Winnipeg Sun for your enthusiastic participation.
Thanks also to approximately 50 United Way volunteers for being such good sports and tackling the inclement conditions like champions. Together, united, we're positioning Winnipeg for lasting change by inspiring participation and positive action.
