GenNext volunteers - make spirits bright
Get together with a group of your peers and work with a non-profit agency or neighbourhood group to complete a much-needed project or hold a special event.
Projects are one or two day tasks and can be anything from building a playground, painting a fence, planting a garden, washing windows or cleaning up.
This is a great opportunity to work with United Way agency partners and make a visible and valuable contribution to the communities they serve. You can get involved in the planning and coordination of the event or simply attend the Day of Caring and have fun!

Become an Agency Liaison Volunteer
Work with United Way's community investment team to play an essential role in the process of renewing funding agreements, reviewing requests for increases and evaluating new initiatives.
You will be assigned to at least one existing or potential agency partner during your three year term. Along with other volunteers and United Way staff, you will meet with your assigned agency approximately once a year to review recent progress and activities.
This is a great way to share existing knowledge and skills and enhance and develop your leadership, problem solving and analysis skills.

Invest in our community by donating to United Way
Get involved in planning a fundraising event for GenNext or for your workplace. Participate in your workplace campaign and take advantage of the ability to donate through payroll deduction. If your employer doesn't yet conduct a workplace campaign, start one up! You can also always make an individual donation by visiting the website or by calling 477-5360.
Share your opinions, ideas, thoughts and concerns on issues like poverty, personal and neighbourhood safety and other social issues that matter most to you through Urban Exchange.
Take the opportunity to identify and find solutions to the issues that concern us most in our city.
Whether you simply take the survey, choose to get further involved in developing or promoting the initiative or analyze its results, you're playing a vital role in shaping the future of our city.
Volunteer as a board member or guest speaker with one of United Way's agency partners or join United Way's Speakers' Bureau and speak on behalf of United Way in various workplaces around the city.
With the assistance of United Way staff, you will be matched to an agency or community group that has identified a need for your particular skill set. You will gain valuable governance experience and/or speaking experience.
Whether it's a longer time commitment with a board or in episodic speaking opportunities, sharing your expertise and experience with agencies or community groups helps create opportunities for a better life for everyone.
Be a positive role model to a young person who needs your support.
United Way will work with you to find a suitable mentorship opportunity with one of its agency partners. Time commitment and volunteer requirements (criminal record check, child abuse registry check etc.) will vary from agency to agency.
You will gain practical experience and skills that will enable you to develop your interpersonal and leadership skills and develop rewarding relationships while helping our city's children and youth achieve their potential.
