Despite continued fallout from the economic slump, Winnipeggers have pulled off an unprecedented feat of generosity by helping to raise over $17.9 million for United Way's 2008 campaign.
The figure represents the most money raised in a single year throughout United Way's 44-year history, surpassing the Campaign 2007 tally by almost $900,000.
The charity says it will use the record funds to offer kids a safe alternative to living on the street, help families reach financial independence and build safe, healthy neighbourhoods.
