Winnipeg Sun managing editor Mark Hamm and yours truly teamed up with other Winnipeg media yesterday, anchored by powerhouse Premier Gary Doer, to kick butt in the United Way Kick-Off Plane Pull (competitive heat), which we showed miserably in last year.
Not this time, Binky. We beat the Johnston Group, University of Manitoba and Scotiabank teams to place, ah ... 18th. Hey. It's better than last year. NAV Canada won the competitive pull, dragging the 727 monster 17 feet in a mere 7.6 seconds.
Ceridian Canada won the fun pull, hauling a snowblower two or three feet in 4.6 seconds, light years ahead of the NDP Caucus, which placed 21st (and dead last), with its 7.22 second yank. The shame. No wonder Doer "crossed the aisle", or runway, as it were.
United Way's 2008 Campaign goal: $17,875,768! Over the top!
