Bob Silver, the United Way's 2008 campaign chair, announces the record-breaking $17.9 million fundraising results.
Winnipeggers raised more than $17.9 million through the United Way’s 2008 campaign — the most ever in its 44-year history.

"We may endure some of the coldest temperatures in the country, but we boast some of the warmest hearts," said Bob Silver, United Way’s 2008 Campaign Chair.

"This achievement is further proof that Winnipeg is one of the most generous cities in Canada."

The goal for this year’s campaign was around $17.8 million. Last year, United Way raised just over $17 million, half a million more than they’d hoped for.

All funds raised go toward programming focused on poverty reduction, creating safer neighbourhoods, and providing youth with positive alternatives to drugs and crime.
